If you are buying on Portland’s Westside, the useful question is not “Which city is best?” It is “Which streets match my commute, budget, and daily life?” This guide compares four areas I work constantly: Lake Oswego, Beaverton, West Linn, and Raleigh Hills.
Lake Oswego
Best when you want a defined downtown/village energy, strong school interest, and a broad mix from condos to luxury. Inventory and pricing vary sharply by neighborhood—treat it as several micro-markets.
Beaverton
Often on the list for Westside employment access and suburban housing options. Good for buyers comparing value and commute against closer-in Portland neighborhoods. Tour at rush hour before you fall in love with a pin on a map.
West Linn
A frequent shortlist for buyers who want a residential, community-oriented Westside feel with Portland metro access. As with Lake Oswego, pricing strategy should come from local comps, not a single metro median.
Raleigh Hills
A Portland Westside pocket that draws buyers who want proximity without giving up a neighborhood scale. Inventory can be tighter; timing and preparation matter.
A simple decision framework
- Map the real commute (not the Saturday drive).
- Lock school and zoning needs early.
- Compare three sold comps and three actives in each finalist area.
- Decide your walk-away price before you write.
